Torriano was twinned with Armthorpe colliery during the 1984 miners’ strike. We organised benefits, hosted the Miners Wives and sent poets and cabaret acts to Armthorpe to entertain the strikers.

1987. Torriano Meeting House poetry readings gave rise to a publishing house – Hearing Eye. Time Pieces was published in 1988.

Torriano Meeting House hosted Dinah Livingstone’s Camden Institute classes in the 80s. Many significant London poets had their beginnings with this group.

The cutting edge Torriano Film Association had many seasons of films in the 80s and 90s. Film makers such as Mona Hatoum, Sally Potter and Terence Davies discussed and presented experimental films.

London Hungarians met at Torriano in the 1980s, and still run events to this day. Board painted by Agnes Hay

The Stonehenge Campaign to get peaceful access to the stones was based at Torriano. Here is Wesley and a dog. This was pre smoking ban.
